Alder is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 227 at the 2010 census. The community is located along the shore of Alder Lake on State Route Highway 7 near the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park.

Alder Dam

Alder Dam is a concrete arch dam on the Nisqually River in the U.S. state of Washington. When construction was completed in 1945, Alder Dam was among the tallest dams in the United States, although this title has already been surpassed. The impounded water behind the dam forms Alder Lake, stretching about 7 miles upstream with a capacity of 241,950 acre feet . With 28 miles of shoreline, the lake is a popular recreation spot close to Mount Rainier National Park.

LaGrande Dam

LaGrande Dam (or La Grande Dam) is a hydroelectric dam on the Nisqually River, on the border of Pierce County and Lewis County, Washington. LaGrande is the lesser of two coordinated dams on the Nisqually, situated two miles north (downstream) of the other, Alder Dam. Both are owned by Tacoma Power. Hydroelectric power was first produced from LaGrande in November 1912 as the first independent project of Tacoma Power.

Alder Lake

Alder Lake is a 7 mi long reservoir on the Nisqually River in Eatonville, Washington in the U.S. state of Washington, which was created following the construction of Alder Dam in 1945. At the very eastern end of the lake is the town of Elbe, Washington.
