ALM Flight 980 was a flight scheduled to fly from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, New York to Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, on 2 May 1970. After several unsuccessful landing attempts, the aircraft's fuel was exhausted and it made a forced water landing (ditching) in the Caribbean Sea 48 km (30 mi) off St. Croix, with 23 fatalities and 40 survivors.

St. George Village Botanical Garden
The St. George Village Botanical Garden (16 acres) is a botanical garden with arboretum located at 127 Estate St. George, Frederiksted, Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. It is open daily except Christmas; an admission fee is charged. The garden is set in and around the restored buildings and ruins of a 19th century Danish sugarcane plantation.

WMYP is a radio station licensed to serve Frederiksted, U. S. Virgin Islands. The station is owned by Amanda Friedman. It airs a Spanish/Tropical/Variety format. The Federal Communications Commission assigned the WPPD call letters to this station on April 27, 1998. This call sign was short-lived as the station switched to WREY on March 1, 1999 then switched again to the current WMYP call letters on December 3, 1999.
