Malo Island

Malo (formerly known as St. Bartholomew) is an island in Vanuatu, 3 km off the southern coast of the larger Espiritu Santo in Sanma Province. It has a circumference of 55 km and an area of 180 km . In 1979, the island had a population of 2,312. The 1999 census found a population of 3,532. By the 2009 census, the total population had grown to 4,273, an increase of 21% since 1999. Avunatari (Abnetare), the main center on the northwest coast, had 600 people in 1999.

Ratua, Vanuatu

Ratua, situated in the Vanuatu archipelago, is a 146-acre island located south of Espiritu Santo, between Aore and Malo islands. In the early 1900s, during the Anglo-French condominium colony, when the Vanuatu archipelago was originally named New Hebrides until its independence in 1980, the island of Ratua was an uninhabited French coconut plantation where copra was produced.

Aore Island

Aore Island is an island in Sanma Province, Vanuatu. It is located opposite Luganville on Espiritu Santo and has an area of 58 km. Aore Island has diving and fishing. There are numerous resorts on the island catering for tourists, weddings and baptisms. Aore Island is a haven for divers, being right on the doorstep of world class wreck and reef diving. Several of the wreck dives include the SS President Coolidge, SS Tucker, and the MV Henry Bonneaud.

SS President Coolidge

The SS President Coolidge was a luxury ocean liner that was originally built, along with her sister ship the SS President Hoover, for Dollar Steamship Lines. They were the largest merchant ships the US had built up to that time. In 1938, when the Dollar Steamship Lines collapsed, she was transferred to American President Lines. In 1941 she was converted to carrying troops in the South Pacific.
