Droop Mountain

Droop Mountain is a small mountain in the Allegheny Mountains on the border of Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties in southeastern West Virginia. It was the scene of one of West Virginia's most important battles during the American Civil War—the Battle of Droop Mountain. Droop Mountain, rising 3597 feet above sea level, is located southwest of Hillsboro, West Virginia, on U.S. Route 219.

Gesundheit! Institute

The Gesundheit! Institute (German for 'Good health!') is a project founded by Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams in 1971, located outside of Hillsboro in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The Institute states its vision as being dedicated to revolutionizing health care delivery by replacing what the Institute sees as greed and competition with generosity and compassion. Creation of Gesundheit! Institute was a topic of the 1998 movie Patch Adams starring Robin Williams.

Denmar Correctional Center

The Denmar Correctional Center (DCC) is a state prison located near Hillsboro in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, USA. Built on the site of the former Denmar Hospital (a facility for tuberculosis patients which closed in 1990), DCC was converted to a prison in 1993. A further building project was completed in 2000, including an Industries/Vocational Building.
