Vjosë

Vjosë or Aoös (Greek: Αώος, for other forms of the name see below) is a river in northwestern Greece and southwestern Albania. Its total length is about 272 kilometres, of which the first 80 kilometres are in Greece, and the remaining 192 kilometres are in Albania. Vjosë is fed by two secondary branches, both in Albania, the Drino river and the Shushicë. Its source is in Greece, specifically in the Pindus mountains, in Epirus, near the village of Vovousa.

Battle of the Aous

The Battle of the Aous was fought in 198 BC between the Roman Republic and The Ancient Kingdom of Macedonia, at or near modern Tepelenë in Albania. The Roman forces were led by Titus Quinctius Flamininus and the Macedonian ones were led by Philip V. Flamininus won the battle, and the two commanders would meet again at Cynoscephalae the following year.

Apollonia (Illyria)

Apollonia was an ancient Greek city in Illyria, located on the right bank of the Aous river. Its ruins are situated in the Fier region, near the village of Pojani, in modern-day Albania. Apollonia was founded in 588 BCE by Greek colonists from Corfu and Corinth, on a site initially occupied by Illyrian tribes and was perhaps the most important of the several classical towns known as Apollonia.

Zvërnec Island

Zvërnec Island is an island within the Narta Lagoon in southern Albania. The island is nearly all covered with tall pine trees and is just east of a much smaller island. It is 430m in length and has a maximum width of 300m. Zvërnec Island is connected to the mainland by a 270m long wooden bridge. The island is a tourist attraction because it contains the well preserved 13th-14th century Byzantine Zvërnec Monastery. Near the island lies the village that bears the same name.
