The 2006 Mendoza earthquake was a medium-intensity seismic movement in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. It took place at 11:03 AM on 5 August 2006, and had a magnitude of 5.7 in the Richter scale. Its hypocenter was centered at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:33|13|48|S|68|56|24|W| | |name= }}, 35 km south-southeast of Mendoza, the provincial capital, exactly at the town of Ugarteche, Luján de Cuyo, and at a depth of 33 km.

The provincial subdivision has a population of about 35,000 inhabitants in an area of 263km², and its capital city is Junín, which is located around 1080km from Capital Federal. El Carrizal Dam

The El Carrizal Dam (in Spanish, Embalse El Carrizal) is a dam on the upper-middle course of the Tunuyán River, in the center-north of the province of Mendoza, Argentina, at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:33|18|0|S|68|43|15|W| | |name= }}, upstream from the city of Rivadavia. Its reservoir measures about 15×5 km, and its maximum water level stands at 785.5 m above the sea, covering an area of 31.47 km². It has a maximum volume of 327 million m³.
