City of Bankstown

The City of Bankstown is a local government area in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, centred on the suburb of Bankstown. In 2006, the NSW government released a planning strategy for Metropolitan Sydney, known as the City of Cities plan for Sydney. The plan identified Bankstown as a 'major centre' for the south west Sydney region. Bankstown Airport was also identified as a 'specialist centre' and the Hume Highway as part of a potential transport corridor.

Bankstown railway station

Bankstown is the principal railway station on the CityRail Bankstown line, for which the line is named. It is itself named for the Sydney suburb of Bankstown in which it is located. The station has a simple island platform, with a crossover at the eastern end and a turnback at the western end of the station to allow trains to be terminated in either direction.

Yagoona, a suburb of local government area City of Bankstown, is 20 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is a part of the South-western Sydney region. Yagoona is an Aboriginal word meaning 'now' or 'today'. Yagoona was known as the site of the first McDonald's restaurant to open in Australia, in 1971.

Yagoona railway station

Yagoona is the next station west of Bankstown on the CityRail Bankstown line and is situated virtually next to the Hume Highway in Yagoona. The station opened in 1928 when the Bankstown line was extended from Bankstown to join the Main South at Regents Park, and the track was electrified in 1939. It has a simple island platform and does not retain its original station buildings.
