It is the fourth highest point in the Central Tablelands at 1355m ASL behind Mount Canobolas 1394m ASL, Mount Bindo 1363m ASL and Mount Trickett 1362m ASL. Shooters Hill is a common location for snowfalls in the Central Ranges. Shooters Hill Post Office opened on 1 December 1889 and closed in 1978.

Retreat River, a perennial stream that is part of the Lachlan catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, is located in the central western district of New South Wales, Australia. The Retreat River rises on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, near Shooters Hill, and flows generally to the south-west, before reaching its confluence with the Abercrombie River, near Hadley. The river flows adjacent to the Abercrombie River National Park, with access at The Sink campground.

Isabella River, a perennial stream that is part of the Lachlan catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, is located in the central–western region of New South Wales, Australia. The river rises on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, between Isabella and Burraga, and flows generally south, south-west, north-west and west, before reaching its confluence with the Abercrombie River east of Tuena; descending 671 metres over its 51 kilometres course.
