Gilgandra Shire

Gilgandra Shire is a local government area in the Orana region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the junction of the Newell, Oxley and Castlereagh highways and can be reached in about six hours by car from Sydney CBD. The Shire lies on the Castlereagh River and includes part of the Warrumbungles National Park. The shire was constituted in 1906. Gilgandra Shire includes Gilgandra, Balladoran and Curban. Gilgandra, New South Wales

Gilgandra is a town located in the central west region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is located on the junction of the Newell, Oxley and Castlereagh highways and can be reached in about six hours by car from Sydney. The town is the administrative seat for the Gilgandra Shire Council. Like Coonabarabran, Gilgandra can be considered to be a gateway to the Warrumbungles National Park. The population, according to the 2006 census, was around 2,679 people.

Goonoo Important Bird Area

The Goonoo Important Bird Area is a 1034 km tract of wooded land in New South Wales, Australia. It lies between the towns of Dubbo, Gilgandra and Dunedoo, about 200 km north-west of Sydney. Formerly the Goonoo State Forest, much of the land is now within the Goonoo State Conservation Area (538 km) and the adjacent Goonoo National Park (91 km). The Important Bird Area (IBA) also includes (18 km) of the Coolbaggie Nature Reserve.
