Capertee, New South Wales

Capertee is a village 45 km north of Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia located on an elevated site (800 metres) above the Capertee Valley. In 2006, the town had a population of 72 people. Situated on the Castlereagh Highway (previously known as the Mudgee Road) between Lithgow and Mudgee, Capertee is surrounded by National Parks and grazing land. Principal employment is in coal mining, farming and tourism related services.

Pultenaea sp. Genowlan Point

Pultenaea sp. Genowlan Point is a critically endangered species of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae-Faboideae. It is only known from one population at Genowlan Point in the Capertee Valley within the Rylstone local government area of New South Wales.

Turon National Park

Turon National Park is located along a section of the Turon River in central New South Wales, Australia. Proposed as an area worth protecting in 1983, the park was not established until 2002. The park is 150 km north-west of Sydney, approximately 5km west of Capertee, near Lithgow, New South Wales. Turon National Park was one of the sites of the 1851 gold rush and remains from this era are still evident. Pasture land cleared in the past remain obvious.

Ben Bullen, New South Wales

Ben Bullen is a small mountain village in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia. The cool community is located on the Castlereagh Highway (almost) halfway between the small towns of Cullen Bullen and Capertee. The place name Ben Bullen is derived from the local Aboriginal word meaning "high, quiet place". The village was formed when the railway was constructed in the early 1880s. While goods trains still use the railway line the small railway station is closed.

Ilford, New South Wales

Ilford is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, in the Mid-Western Regional Council. It is named after the small English town of Ilford (then in Essex, now in east London), where the founders of this town came from. It is situated around 220 km north west of Sydney. It is located on the Castlereagh Highway, which is locally referred to as Sydney Road.
