Brewarrina, New South Wales

Brewarrina (locally known as 'Bre') is a town in North West New South Wales, Australia on the banks of the Barwon River in Brewarrina Shire. The name Brewarrina is derived from 'burru waranha', a Wayilwan name for a species of Acacia or Cassia tree. Also: 'Acacia clumps', 'a native standing' or 'place where wild gooseberry grows'. It is 98 km east of Bourke and west of Walgett on the Kamilaroi Highway, and 808 km from Sydney. The population of Brewarrina in 2011 was 1,254.

Rowena, New South Wales

Rowena is a small town in the far north-west of New South Wales, Australia, and lies in the Walgett Shire. It serves an agricultural community which consists of both dry and irrigated cropping as well as grazing. At the 2006 census, Rowena had a population of 201 people. A public school, which opened in 1923 and was rebuilt in 1996, serves the district. The Pokataroo railway line passes through the town.

Cryon, New South Wales

Cryon is a parish and hamlet situated 685 km from Sydney, New South Wales, 130 km west of Narrabri and 52 km east of Walgett on the Kamilaroi Highway in the north-west of New South Wales, Australia, and lies in the Walgett Shire. The settlement sits at altitude of about 146 metres. When the Walgett railway line arrived here in 1905 this was a thriving settlement with a variety of businesses including a hotel and stores.

Burren Junction, New South Wales

Burren Junction is a New South Wales village 51 km west of Wee Waa, on the Kamilaroi Highway to Walgett. The name is from the local Aboriginal word for boomerang or 'big creek'. Burren Junction grew from a railway encampment which came from the extension of the north-western rail line in 1902. Burren Junction Post Office opened on 16 May 1904. Burren Junction is in the Walgett Shire local government area and Jamison County.
