Cowell is a coastal town on Franklin Harbour on the eastern side of the Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia on the Lincoln Highway 111 km south from the major town of Whyalla. It is 493 km by road from Adelaide. Franklin Harbour is a natural harbour of 49 km² in area with a channel to the sea just 100 metres wide. The town of Cowell is the major population centre of the District Council of Franklin Harbour, and the centre of an agricultural district farming wheat and sheep.

Cowell area school

Cowell Area School is an R-12 Government Public school in Cowell, a small costal town 494 km away from Adelaide, South Australia in the District Council of Franklin Harbour district. The school now has about 190 students, with a capacity of up to 300. The school is highly supported by the local community which works mainly in farming, aquaculture and mining. The school owns an oyster lease and runs a significant Aquaculture Skills Centre.

The District Council of Franklin Harbour is a local government area in South Australia on the Eyre Peninsula. Cowell is the major population centre of an agricultural district based on farming wheat and sheep, supplemented by a fishing and oyster farming industries. The district's coastal towns including Cowell and Lucky Bay attract large amounts of tourists during school holidays, with the new Spencer Gulf ferry service increasing traffic to theses areas since 2006.

Arno Bay, South Australia

Arno Bay is a small fishing and tourist town on the east coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, located on the Lincoln Highway about half way between Whyalla and Port Lincoln. First proclaimed under the name Bligh in 1883, the current name dates back to 1940. It is a recreational town with a number of marine and nature based attractions, including fishing, surfing and swimming.

The Postboy (ship)

The 63 ton schooner Postboy was built at Port Adelaide in 1874. The schooner was owned by Messrs. Weman and Morgan and registered at Port Adelaide. She was a regular trading vessel between Port Adelaide and the gulf ports. Captain James Thomas was in charge of the schooner Postboy on 15 December 1876 about 11-12 miles (20 km) off Glenelg when a sudden squall struck.
