Blue Lake (South Australia)

The Blue Lake in Mount Gambier, South Australia is a large monomictic lake located in an extinct volcanic maar associated with the Mount Gambier maar complex. It is one of four crater lakes on Mount Gambier. Of the four lakes, only two remain, as the other two (Leg of Mutton and Brown) have dried up over the past 30 to 40 years as the water table has dropped. Conflicting dates have been estimated for its last eruption, of 28,000 years ago, 4300 years ago.

District Council of Grant

The District Council of Grant is a local government area located in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, and is the southernmost council in the state. The council was formed in 1996, after the amalgamation of the District Councils of Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell, and currently surrounds the City of Mount Gambier local government area. The economy of the district is based around agriculture, forestry and fishing.

Mount Gambier, South Australia

Mount Gambier is the second most populous city in South Australia with an urban population of 24,905. Located on the slopes of the mountain of the same name in the south east of the state approximately 450 kilometres south-east of the capital Adelaide and just 17 kilometres from the Victorian border, it is the most important settlement in the Limestone Coast region and the seat of government for both the City of Mount Gambier and District Council of Grant.
