Unlike many of the other Omega Transmitters, Woodside is not a "hot tower," that is, one which is insulated from a ground connection by large ceramic insulators that support the entire weight of the structure.

Near Woodside there is the tallest construction of the southern hemisphere, the aerial mast of the VLF Transmitter Woodside. It is also located near the beach of the same name Woodside Beach. A railway connected Woodside with the railhead of Port Albert from 22 June 1923 until 25 May 1953. An Australian oil and gas company, Woodside Petroleum, is named from this area.
