Esso Longford gas explosion

The 1998 Esso Longford gas explosion was a catastrophic industrial accident which occurred at the Esso natural gas plant at Longford in the Australian state of Victoria's Gippsland region. On 25 September 1998, an explosion took place at the plant, killing two workers and injuring eight. Gas supplies to the state of Victoria were severely affected for two weeks.

Longford, Victoria

Longford is a town in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. At the 2006 census, Longford and the surrounding area had a population of 929. It was named after the town and county of Longford in Ireland. It is located at the junction of the South Gippsland Highway and the Longford-Rosedale Road, next to the Latrobe River. A new bridge over the floodprone Latrobe River was completed in 2006, replacing the historic swinging bridge.

Sale Swing Bridge

The Sale Swing Bridge, located on the South Gippsland Highway 5 km from the city of Sale, Victoria, Australia, spans the Latrobe River at its junction with the Thomson River. Designed by John Grainger and built in 1883 by the Victorian government, it was the first movable bridge built in Victoria. Its wrought-iron structure, 45 metres long, pivots on cylindrical steel columns. At its peak, the bridge was opened up to 20 times a day, allowing the movement of steamers between Sale and Melbourne.

Lake Guthridge

Lake Guthridge is a small artificial lake in Sale, Victoria, Australia, named after the first Sale mayor, Nehemiah Guthridge. The lake was originally a bog but Guthridge suggested converting it into a lake to supply the growing population. Its sister, Lake Guyatt acts as overflow.

Diocese of Gippsland

The Anglican Diocese of Gippsland is located in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia, extending from Phillip Island to Mallacoota. It has existed as a diocese since 1902, when the Right Reverend Arthur Wellesley Pain was installed at the first Bishop of Gippsland. The current Bishop of Gippsland is the Right Reverend John McIntyre, who was installed in the cathedral on 18 February 2006.
