Lake Charm, Victoria

Lake Charm is a small town situated on the Murray Valley Highway, just west of a lake of the same name. Located in the northwest of Victoria, Australia, within the Shire of Gannawarra. Lake Charm is 19 km from Kerang . The area is a popular destination for waterskiing, boating, fishing and scenic drives. It is south of Swan Hill, the nearest large town.

Avoca River

The Avoca River drains a substantial part of Victoria, the southernmost state of mainland Australia. The river rises at the foot of Mount Lonarch in the Central Highlands near the small town of Amphitheatre, and flows north for 270 km through Avoca, Charlton and Quambatook. Although the Avoca River Basin is part of the Murray-Darling Basin, the Avoca does not empty into the Murray.

Kerang train accident

The Kerang train accident occurred on 5 June 2007 at about 1:40 pm AEST in the Australian state of Victoria, approximately 6 kilometres north of the town of Kerang in the state's northwest, and 257 kilometres north-northwest of the city of Melbourne. Southbound V/Line passenger train service 8042, which consisted of locomotive N460 and carriage set N7, was run into by a northbound semi-trailer truck, at a level crossing where the Swan Hill railway line crosses the Murray Valley Highway.

Shire of Gannawarra

The Shire of Gannawarra is a local government area of Victoria, Australia in the north-west of the state. The main towns are Cohuna, Kerang and Quambatook. It has an area of 3,728 square kilometres. In 2006 it had a population of 11,296. The Shire was formed in 1995 from the merger of the Borough of Kerang and most parts of the Shire of Kerang and Shire of Cohuna. The northeastern border of the shire is the Murray River. The Loddon River flows through the shire, feeding into the Murray.

Borough of Kerang

The Borough of Kerang was a local government area in northwestern Victoria, Australia. The borough, for most of its history part of the surrounding Shire of Kerang, covered an area of 22.60 square kilometres, and existed from 1966 until 1995.
