Golden Plains Shire

Golden Plains Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the south-west of the state. It includes the towns of Bannockburn, Gheringhap, Lethbridge, Linton, Berringa, Rokewood and Meredith. It has an area of 2,721 square kilometres. In 2009 it had a population of 18,173. It was formed in 1994 from the merger of the former Shire of Bannockburn, Shire of Leigh, Shire of Grenville and part of the Shire of Buninyong.

Inverleigh, Victoria

Inverleigh is a small rural township in Victoria, Australia located 28 kilometres west from the City of Geelong and 87 kilometres from the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2006 census, Inverleigh had a population of 562. Since the mid-1970s Inverleigh has become a dormitory suburb of Geelong with some residents commuting to Melbourne. The recent opening of the Geelong Ring Road will improve access to Melbourne which should be only a 45 minute drive away.

Bluestone from Lethbridge quarries was used to build several significant buildings in Melbourne, including the steps to the Parliament House. At the 2006 census, Lethbridge had a population of 495. Lethbridge Post Office opened on 10 September 1857 and closed in 1980.
