Streatham, Victoria

Streatham is a town in the Western District of Victoria, Australia, located on the Glenelg Highway, 80 kilometres west of Ballarat, in the Rural City of Ararat. At the 2011 census, Streatham had a population of 298. Streatham is one of the earliest settlements established in the area covered by the current-day Rural City of Ararat Council. In the 1840s the site was known as Fiery Creek, after the waterway by which it is located, but was named after Streatham, London, England, in 1852.

Lake Bolac, Victoria

Lake Bolac is a town in the Western District region of Victoria, Australia, in the Rural City of Ararat, 91 km west of Ballarat. At the 2006 census, Lake Bolac and the surrounding area had a population of 470. The town is on the shores of Lake Bolac, a freshwater lake popular with anglers. The Glenelg Highway passes through the town. Lake Bolac Post Office opened on 1 November 1864. Lake Bolac has a Prep to year 12 school.

Lake Bolac stone arrangement

The Lake Bolac stone arrangement is an Aboriginal ceremonial site near the town of Lake Bolac in the Western District north-east of Hamilton, Victoria. At some stage, some of the stones were removed to make way for a road (now the Glenelg Highway to Adelaide). One indigenous view is that this is when things started going wrong. The basalt stones are arranged in two lines and are said to resemble a giant eel.

County of Ripon

The County of Ripon is one of the 37 counties of Victoria which are part of the cadastral divisions of Australia, used for land titles. The County includes the plains of the Western District from Ballarat in the east to the Grampians in the west. Larger towns include Beaufort. The County was proclaimed in 1849.
