Wannamal, Western Australia

Wannamal in a small town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The town's name is taken from the nearby Wannamal Lake, a name of Indigenous Australian origin that was first recorded in 1853. The meaning of the word is thought to mean lake. Grazing leases were first taken in the area in the 1850s and by the 1870s a permanent settlement existed in the area. In 1892 the Midland railway was extended as far as Wannamal and a siding was opened in the townsite in 1895.

New Norcia Station

New Norcia Station is a 35-metre ESTRACK radio antenna for communication with spacecraft in deep space. It is located 10 kilometres south of the town of New Norcia, Western Australia. It was built for the European Space Agency. The station was officially opened on 5 March 2003 by the Premier of Western Australia at the time, Dr Geoff Gallop. The New Norcia antenna has an almost identical sister station, Cebreros Station, near Madrid, Spain.

ESTRACK

The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) operates a number of ground-based space-tracking stations for the European Space Agency (ESA) known as the European Space Tracking (ESTRACK) network. The stations support various ESA spacecraft and facilitate communications between ground operators and scientific probes such as XMM-Newton and Mars Express.

Mooliabeenee, Western Australia

Mooliabeenee (frequently misspelt as Mooliabeenie) is a locality in Western Australia, East of Gingin, within the Shire of Chittering. The nearby Mooliabeenie Siding between Gingin and Mogumber is a railway siding on the now defunct private Midland Railway which ran from Midland Junction to Walkaway. Also nearby is a disused 1,500 m long airstrip which was used by the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and associated with the Caversham Airfield at Middle Swan.
