Melsele

Melsele is a small town in the municipality of Beveren located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Melsele is sandwiched between the city proper of Beveren and the nearby town of Zwijndrecht. There is a tram line just outside the town connecting it to both Zwijndrecht and the large city of Antwerp.

Cortewalle Castle

Cortewalle Castle is a moated castle in Beveren in East Flanders, Belgium. The castle dates back to the 15th century, and is one of the oldest in the Waasland. It is built of white sandstone, in Flemish Renaissance style. For centuries it was in the possession successively of the Triest, Goubau and de Brouchoven de Bergeyck families, until the Brouchovens sold it to the municipality of Beveren, who use it for the storage of the extensive and important De Bergeyck archives.

Freethiel Stadion

Freethiel Stadion is a multi-use stadium in Beveren, Belgium. The whole complex includes 10 football fields and a fitness hall. It is currently used mostly for football matches, and is the home ground of Waasland-Beveren. The stadium's name (Freethiel) is a contraction of the name Frederik Thielemans, the man who owned a cycling-track in the Klapperstraat, but made it available to the football club when it was established.

Waasland

The Waasland is a region in Flanders, Belgium, although without any administrative functions. It is also called the Land van Waas (Land of Waas); Waas most likely refers to the soggy soil of the region even though the exact etymology is unknown - one possibility is a connection to the English word 'wasteland'.

Battle of Kallo

The Battle of Kallo was a major battle of the Eighty Years' War. It was fought on 20 June of 1638 near the fort of Kallo, located on the left bank of the Scheldt river, between a Dutch army under the command of William of Nassau-Hilchenbach, and a Spanish army led by the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand, governor of the Spanish Netherlands.
