Uru Uru Lake

Lake Uru Uru is a lake in the Oruro Department in Bolivia. It is fed by the Desaguadero River. It is situated at an elevation of 3,686 m, its surface area is 214 km². The lake is formed by the flow of the Desaguadero River at its mouth into the Lake Poopó, over the extensive sedimentation known as "Santo Tomás" from the small hermitage found there that was completely inundated. The formation dates to 1962. The river connects Lake Titicaca and Lake Poopó.

Universidad Técnica de Oruro

The Universidad Técnica de Oruo (Oruro Technical University), or UTO, is one of ten public universities in Bolivia. It is located in the city of Oruro. The university was created on 15 October 1892 as Distrito Universitario de Oruro. It changed its name in 1937 to Universidad San Agustín and finally adopted its present name in 1941. One of UTO's most prestigious colleges is the "Facultad Nacional de Ingeniería" (National Engineering School).

Machacamarca (Oruro)

Machacamarca is a small town in the Pantaléon Dalence Province in the Oruro Department in Bolivia. It is the seat of the Machacamarca Municipality as well as of the Machacamarca Canton. At the time of census 2001 it had a population of 2,206. The town is situated south of Oruro near the south-eastern shore of Lake Uru Uru at the road and railway that lead to Poopó.

Oruro, Bolivia

Oruro is a city in Bolivia with a population of 235,393 (2010 calculation), located about equidistant between La Paz and Sucre at approximately 3710 meters above sea level. It is the capital of the department of Oruro. The city is also the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oruro. Oruro is subject to boom or bust cycles due to it dependence upon the mining industry, notably tin, tungsten (wolfram), silver and copper.
