Balfour, also known as Balfour Bay, is an unincorporated community in British Columbia, located about 30 kilometres northeast of the city of Nelson and located at the juncture of Kootenay Lake with its West Arm. It is the location of the Kootenay Lake Ferry, which is the longest toll-free vehicle ferry in North America.

Kootenay Lake Ferry

The Kootenay Lake Ferry is a ferry across the Kootenay Lake in British Columbia, Canada. It operates between Balfour, on the west side of the lake, and Kootenay Bay, on the east side. Two ferry vessels are used, the MV Osprey 2000 and the MV Balfour. The ferry operates under contract to the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and is free of tolls.

Cody Caves

The Cody Caves are a network of limestone caves in the Selkirk Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. They are located 2 miles north of Ainsworth Hot Springs on the west side of Kootenay Lake. Discovered in the early 1890s, the caves became protected in July 1966 with the formation of the Cody Caves Provincial Park. Cody Caves is one of the best-known cave systems in British Columbia, and Cody Caves Provincial Park was the first subterranean park created in the province.

Cody Caves Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. It was formed in July 1966 to protect the Cody Caves and was the first subterranean park in British Columbia. The park is 13 km by road, northwest from the hot springs community of Ainsworth on Kootenay Lake.

Ainsworth, British Columbia

Ainsworth or Ainsworth Hot Springs is a historic village on Kootenay Lake in British Columbia, Canada and has a population of 50. Founded on May 31, 1883, it is the oldest surviving community on Kootenay Lake. Ainsworth is located on Highway 31, 11 miles north of Balfour and 12 miles south of Kaslo, British Columbia. Today, Ainsworth Hot Springs and the Cody Caves are a popular destination for tourists and spelunkers.
