Interesting facts about this location

Corkery, Ontario

A small Canadian village located outside Carp, Ontario, Corkery was founded by approximately 100 Irish families from County Cork immigrating to the region in the early 19th century, locally known as the "Peter Robinson settlers". The first church in the village was built in 1837, although some reports put it at 1824 which would make it the second-oldest Catholic church in the Ottawa region. Construction began in 1864 on a stone church meant to replace the wooden structure.

Huntley Township, Ontario

Huntley is an historic township originally part of Carleton County in eastern Ontario, Canada. Huntley was located in the western part of the county, bordered to the northwest by Fitzroy Township, to the northeast by March Township, to the southwest by Ramsay Township and to the southeast by Goulbourn Township. It includes the communities of Carp, Corkery, Huntley, Manion Corners, and Westwood. The township was established in 1841.

West Carleton Township, Ontario

West Carleton is a historic township in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located in the rural parts of the new City of Ottawa, west of Kanata. Its northern boundary is the Ottawa River. The township was created in 1974 with the amalgamation of three townships: Torbolton, Fitzroy, and Huntley. In 2001 it was amalgamated with the other ten municipalities in the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton to form the new city of Ottawa.
