Ayquina

Ayquina (also spelled as Aiquina) is a village located on the northern flank of Salado River Canyon in the Calama commune of the El Loa Province in Chile's Antofagasta Region. It sits at an elevation of 2,980 m above sea level. The festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Ayquina is the most important religious festival in the area. Cerro Paniri, a stratovolcano, plays an important role in the local culture and beliefs.

Boeckella palustris

Boeckella palustris is a species of copepod that lives in South America. It is found in shallow pools, including the highest body of water ever to have yielded a crustacean, at an altitude of 5,930 m in the Andes. It was described independently by two scientists in 1955, using material brought back by different European expeditions to the same region.
