Interesting facts about this location

Olca

Olca is a stratovolcano on the border of Chile and Bolivia. It lies in the middle of a 15 km long ridge composed of several stratovolcanos. Cerro Minchincha lies to the west and Paruma to the east. It is also close to the pre-Holocene Cerro Paruma. It is andesitic and dacitic in composition, with lava flows extending several kilometres north of the peak. The only activity from the ridge during historical times was a flank eruption from 1865 to 1867. The exact source of this eruption is unclear.

Miño Volcano

Miño Volcano is a symmetrical cone-shaped stratovolcano located in El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile. It lies a few kilometres northwest of Aucanquilcha volcano and at its foot originates Loa River. The major settlement in its vicinity is Ollagüe. Unlike many other high summits in the area, there is no evidence of a pre-Columbian ascent to its summit.

Aucanquilcha

Aucanquilcha is a massive stratovolcano located in Antofagasta Region of northern Chile, just west of the border with Bolivia. It comprises a number of overlapping cones along a 10 km (6 mi) long ridge that forms the summit. There is weak, episodic fumarolic activity and voluminous sulfur deposits in the summit region.

Loa River

The Loa River is a U-shaped river in Chile's northern Antofagasta Region. At 440 km long it is the country's longest river and the main watercourse in the Atacama Desert.
