Area de Conservación Guanacaste World Heritage Site
The Area de Conservación Guanacaste, is a World Heritage Site in the northwestern part of Costa Rica, which comprises Santa Rosa, Guanacaste, Rincón de la Vieja National Parks and the Junquillal Bay Wildlife Refuge. It formally became part of National System of Conservation Areas in 1994, and then a World Heritage site in 1999. The area of the parks combined totals 1470 square kilometers as of 2004.

Guanacaste Conservation Area
Guanacaste Conservation Area is an administrative area which is managed by SINAC for the purposes of conservation in the northwestern part of Costa Rica. The Gulf of Papagayo (Spanish: Golfo de Papagayo, meaning "gulf of the parrot") is a large body of water off Guanacaste province and the northwestern coast of Costa Rica. Curubandé is a district in the Liberia Canton of Costa Rica. In recent years, Curubandé has become a center of tourism within Costa Rica. Curubande is also the site of Las Pailas Geothermal Central, a large geothermal power plant that is being built to provide a large portion of Costa Rica's electric energy needs.
