Puriscal (canton)

Puriscal is the name of the 4th canton (or "county") in the province of San José, Costa Rica. In Spanish, a "puriscal" is the flower of the common bean. The capital city of the canton is Santiago (de Puriscal). The canton of Puriscal covers an area of 553.66 km²; the Río Chucás delineates the canton's northernmost boundary, while the Río Chires marks its far southern border, with the canton of Parrita in Puntarenas Province.

Mora is the name of the 7th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 162.04 km², and has a population of 23,004. The capital city of the canton is Ciudad Colón. Acosta is the name of the 12th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 242.24 km², and has a population of 19,342. The capital city of the canton is San Ignacio. The mountainous canton begins in the Cerros de Escazú on the far western edge of the San José Metropolitan Area.

The University for Peace (UPEACE) is an education organization established in Costa Rica in 1980 “to provide humanity with an international institution of higher education for peace with the aim of promoting among all human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress, in keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations. ”

Ciudad Colón

Ciudad Colon is a small town situated west of Santa Ana, Costa Rica. Ciudad Colon is the head city of Mora Canton, San José Province. It is famous for its warm climate, proximity to nature and its surrounding mountains, folkloric traditions, horse riding, and multiculturalism. Located some 6 km out into the hills is the United Nations University for Peace.
