Gulf of Piran

The Gulf of Piran or Piran Bay (Slovene: Piranski zaliv, Croatian: Piranski zaljev or, recently, Savudrijska vala, Italian: Baia di Pirano) is located in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea, and is a part of the southernmost tip of the Gulf of Trieste. It was named after the town of Piran, and its shores are shared by Croatia and Slovenia.

Savudrija

Savudrija is a coastal settlement in northwestern Istria, Croatia. It has developed from a fishing village into a pleasant holiday centre. Savudrija is also the name of the surrounding area in the peninsula. The main attraction of the settlement is a 29 m high lighthouse, the northernmost in Croatia and reputed to be the oldest on the Adriatic Sea. Three kinds of wind meet here, so the area is popular with windsurfers.

Dragonja

The Dragonja is a 30-kilometre long river in the northern part of the Istrian peninsula. It is a meandering river with a very branched basin and a small quantity of water. It often dries up in summer. It features very diverse living environments and is home to a number of animal and plant species. The Dragonja has been a matter of a territorial dispute between Croatia and Slovenia, with its lowest portion de facto the border of the two countries.

Fiesa, Portorož

Fiesa is a street in Portorož, a settlement in the Municipality of Piran. It mainly lies in a small plain next to the eponymous bay to the west of Strunjan and to the southeast of Piran. The beachfront to the west and the east of the central part features high cliffs. It is connected with Piran by a road through the hills and a beach promenade along the northern beachfront. There are two hotels, a few guest-houses and a camping site in Fiesa.
