Kordun

The Kordun region is a part of central Croatia from the bottom of the Petrova Gora (Peter's mountain) mountain range, which extends along the rivers Korana and Slunjčica, and forms part of the border region to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The southern border of Kordun touches the Lika region. Most of Kordun with its centre Slunj belongs to Karlovac County. Vrginmost belongs to Sisak-Moslavina County. In former times, this region belonged to the Habsburg Military Frontier towards the Ottoman Empire.

Slunjčica

The Slunjčica (natives also call it Slušnica) is a river, which flows through the Kordun region in central Croatia. It partly flows underground through porous karst and surfaces in the vicinity of the city of Slunj. At Rastoke the Slunjčica leads into the river Korana, which reaches this point after passing the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The city of Slunj bears its name from this river.

Mrežnica

The Mrežnica is a river in Karlovac County, Croatia. It is 63 kilometres long and its basin covers an area of 64 square kilometres . Mrežnica is considered special due to its large number of waterfalls, totalling 93. It rises in Kordun west of Slunj and flows northwards, in parallel to Dobra and Korana, through Generalski Stol and Duga Resa, when it finally flows into the Korana in the south of Karlovac.

Cetin Castle

The fortress of Cetin is situated 5 kilometres south of Cetingrad above the village of Podcetin, in Croatia. The time of foundation of Cetin is unfortunately still unknown. There are some indications that the settlement existed there in the times of the Roman Empire. The parish of All Saints was first mentioned in 1334. In 1387 Cetin was donated to Ivan Krčki by king Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor and became the property of the Frankopan family. The Middle Ages were the golden era of Cetin.
