Rødbyhavn

Rødbyhavn is a small town and harbour on the south coast of Lolland, Denmark. Rødbyhavn ("Rødby Harbour") is located approximately 5 km southwest of the town of Rødby. It is a harbour on the northern shore of the Fehmarn Belt. Ferry service connects Rødbyhavn with Puttgarden on the island of Fehmarn. Thus one can drive or take the train from Copenhagen over the Fehmarn Belt, and on to Lübeck and Hamburg by European route E47, which in Germany is known as autobahn A1 or Vogelfluglinie.

Rødby

Rødby is a town and a former municipality on the island of Lolland in Denmark. The former Rødby municipality covered an area of 120 km², and had a total population of 6,590 (2005). Its last mayor was Hans Ole Sørensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. On January 1, 2007 Rødby municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).

Højreby

Until January 1, 2007 Højreby was a municipality on the island of Lolland in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 128 km², and had a total population of 4,049 (2005). Its last mayor was Jytte Frijs, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The site of its municipal council was the town of Søllested. Højreby municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).

Niobe (schooner)

The Segelschulschiff Niobe was a tall ship used by the German Navy to train cadets and aspiring NCOs. She sank during a sudden squall on 26 July 1932, with the loss of 69 lives. At Gammendorfer Strand on Fehmarn island, within view of the site of the sinking, the Niobe-Denkmal monument was erected.

Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link

The Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link is an immersed tunnel (in earlier design iterations, a bridge) that is proposed to connect the German island of Fehmarn with the Danish island of Lolland. This would cross over the Fehmarn Belt in the Baltic Sea – 18 km wide – hence providing a direct link by railroad and highway between northern Germany and Lolland, and thence to the Danish island of Zealand.
