Sauldre

The Sauldre is a river in central France, right tributary of the river Cher. Its source is near the village Montigny, southwest of Sancerre. The Sauldre flows generally northwest through the following départements and towns: Cher: Vailly-sur-Sauldre, Argent-sur-Sauldre Loir-et-Cher: Salbris, Romorantin-Lanthenay The Sauldre flows into the river Cher near Selles-sur-Cher. Battle of Pontlevoy

The Battle of Pontlevoy was fought on 6 July 1016 between the forces of Fulk III of Anjou and Herbert I of Maine on one side and Odo II of Blois on the other. It was one of the largest battles of early medieval France and was determining of the balance of power in the Loire Valley for years after it was fought. The battle took place near Pontlevoy on the River Cher, between Blois and Tours, not far from the large Angevin fortress of Montrichard.

Château de Montrichard

The Château de Montrichard is a ruined 11th century castle located at the heart of the commune of Montrichard in the Loir-et-Cher département of France. The property of the commune, it has been listed since 1877 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture. The castle was constructed by Foulques Nerra, Count of Anjou, and rebuilt in the 12th century. Henri IV ordered it to be dismantled in 1589.

1947 BOAC Douglas C-47 crash

The 1947 BOAC Douglas C-47 Crash occurred on 11 January 1947 when Douglas C-47A G-AGJX of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) crashed into a hill at Stowting, Kent, in southeast England, killing five people outright, with a further three dying from injuries received. The aircraft had been operating a scheduled international flight to West Africa via France. Poor weather caused the aircraft to attempt to divert.
