Epte

The Epte is a river in Seine-Maritime and Eure, in Normandy, France. It is a right tributary of the Seine. The river rises in Seine-Maritime in the Pays de Bray, near Forges-les-Eaux. The river empties into the Seine not far from Giverny. In 911 the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte established the river as the historical boundary of Normandy and Île-de-France. Claude Monet lived at Giverny near the river for more than forty years.

Château des Tourelles

The Château des Tourelles is a ruined castle in the commune of Vernon in the Eure département of France. The castle originated in 1196, when Philippe Auguste (Philip II of France), fighting against the king of England, Richard the Lionheart, for possession of Normandy, seized Vernon and made the town a military base. The castle consists of four turrets twenty metres high. It is one of the few castles in France which has been practically unchanged for 800 years.

Tour des Archives

The Tour des Archives is the keep of a former castle in the commune of Vernon in the Eure département of France. Its origin goes back to 1123, built by King Henry I of England, the son of William the Conqueror. It is 22m high and is a rare existing example of a round tower in Normandy, like the so-called tour Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc Tower) of the former Rouen Castle. The Tour des Archives has been classified since 1840 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Château de Saint-Just

The Château de Saint-Just is a Renaissance castle with a park located in the Commune of Saint-Just near the town of Vernon in the Eure Department, in the region of upper Normandy, France. It was classified as an historic monument of France in 1995. The park is classified by the Committee of Parks and Gardens of the French Ministry of Culture as one of the Remarkable Gardens of France. The park is open to the public on certain hours from June first until August 1.
