Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial

The Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, is located just outside of Saint-Avold, Moselle, France. It covers 113.5 acres and contains 10,849 graves, the largest number of any American World War II cemetery in Europe. Those interred died mostly in the autumn of 1944 during the drive to the Siegfried Line as the Americans sought to expel the Germans; they were mainly part of the U.S. Third and Seventh Armies. The cemetery is administered by the American Battle Monuments Commission.

The Longwave transmitter Europe 1 is the oldest privately owned radio station in Germany, situated between Felsberg and Berus/Saar, Germany. It transmits with a power of 2000 kilowatts a French speaking programme, Europe 1 toward France. It is the largest radio broadcasting transmitter in Germany.

Bist (river)

The Bist is a river in France and in Germany, and a 26.3 kilometres left tributary of the Saar. The Bist begins near the French village of Boucheporn, Lorraine and flows northeastward to Creutzwald. From there it follows the France-Germany border northward 3 kilometres to Überherrn, then flows eastward to Werbeln and northward to join the Saar immediately north of the Autobahn 620 bridge in Wadgassen, Saarland. The Saar is a tributary of the Moselle, which is a tributary of the Rhine

Völklingen Ironworks
