The Blies is a right tributary of the Saar in southwestern Germany and northeastern France. The Blies flows from three springs in the Hunsrück near Selbach, Germany. Neue Bremm was a Nazi torture camp in Saarbrücken, designed to break prisoners who were not destined for extermination. Most prisoners were held for only a few weeks but during that time they were broken and sent on to Nazi concentration camps such as Buchenwald. Short term torture camps like Neue Bremm were called Straflager. The torture is reported to have included hopping crouched for 6 to 8 hours a day. Further, they were starved and deprived of sleep.
