Blies

The Blies is a right tributary of the Saar in southwestern Germany and northeastern France. The Blies flows from three springs in the Hunsrück near Selbach, Germany. It is approximately 100 km long, ending in the French city of Sarreguemines. It flows through Sankt Wendel, Neunkirchen, and Blieskastel (one of several towns named after the river). Its lower course forms the border between France and Germany.

European Archaeological Park of Bliesbruck-Reinheim

The European Archaeological Park at Bliesbruck-Reinheim, in the German municipality of Gersheim and the French municipality of Bliesbruck, is a cross-border project which combines excavations and reconstructions of Celtic and Roman finds with exhibition and educational facilities. It was created in 1989 as a result of the archaeological work being done on both sides of the Franco-German border.

Neue Bremm

Neue Bremm was a Nazi torture camp in Saarbrücken, designed to break prisoners who were not destined for extermination. Most prisoners were held for only a few weeks but during that time they were broken and sent on to Nazi concentration camps such as Buchenwald. Short term torture camps like Neue Bremm were called Straflager. The torture is reported to have included hopping crouched for 6 to 8 hours a day. Further, they were starved and deprived of sleep.
