Aa River (France)

The Aa is an 89 km long river in northern France. Its source is near the village Bourthes. It flows through the following départements and cities: Pas-de-Calais: Saint-Omer. Nord: Gravelines. The Aa flows into the North Sea near Gravelines, very close to the north-eastern limit of the English Channel. The name Aa is old-Dutch and means water.

PS Duchess of Montrose

PS Duchess of Montrose was a paddle steamer launched in 1902 and operated by the Caledonian Steam Packet Company as a River Clyde excursion steamer. She saw active service during the First World War after being requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted into a minesweeper. She was lost near Dunkirk on 18 March 1917 after striking a mine.

1580 Dover Straits earthquake

Though severe earthquakes in the north of France and Britain are rare, the Dover Straits earthquake of 6 April 1580 appears to have been one of the largest in the recorded history of England, Flanders or northern France. It occurred at around 6 o'clock in the evening.
