Clarence (river)

The Clarence is a river in northern France whose 32 km course crosses the département of Pas-de-Calais. Its source is near the village of Sains-lès-Pernes. It flows through the communes of Sachin, Pernes, Calonne-Ricouart, Calonne-sur-la-Lys and Gonnehem, finally joining the Lys near Merville. It has two tributaries, the Nave and the Grand Nocq.

Canal de la Nieppe

The Canal de la Nieppe was part of the Hazebrouck Canals (French: Canaux d'Hazebrouck). It connected to the River Lys at Thiennes with a second connection to the River Lys at Merville. It was 23 km with 4 locks. The other canals composing the Hazebrouck canals are the Canal de Préaven, Canal de la Bourre, Canal d'Hazebrouck.

Bertenacre Military Cemetery

Bertenacre Military Cemetery is a British military cemetery with casualties from both world wars, located in the French town of Flêtre in the Nord department in northern France. The cemetery is located about three kilometers north of Flêtre, a few hundred meters south of the road from Eecke to Godewaersvelde, near the hamlet Berthenaere. There are 147 casualties commemorated: 112 from the First World War and 35 from the Second World War.

Le Paradis massacre

The Le Paradis massacre was a war crime committed by members of the 14th Company, SS Division Totenkopf, under the command of Hauptsturmführer Fritz Knöchlein. It took place on 27 May 1940, during the Battle of France, at a time when the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) was attempting to retreat through the Pas-de-Calais region during the Battle of Dunkirk. Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Norfolk Regiment, had become isolated from their regiment.
