Longpont Abbey

Longpont Abbey (Abbaye Notre-Dame de Longpont) was a Cistercian monastery, in present-day Longpont, Aisne, France. It existed from 1131 to 1793, being founded by monks from the abbey of Clairvaux, at the behest of Jocelin of Soissons. There is now a hotel on the site. The original buildings suffered war damage in 1918. Its monks included Petrus Cantor and John de Montmirail.

Guards' Grave

Guards' Grave is a military cemetery near Villers-Cotterêts in northern France, maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. In 1914, the British Expeditionary Force fought a rearguard action here during the Retreat from Mons. On 1 September, the British 4th Brigade who were covering the withdrawal of 2nd Division, came into contact with the leading units of the German III Corps on the edge of woodland near Villers-Cotterêts.

Abbey of St. Jean des Vignes

The Abbey of St. Jean des Vignes was a monastery of Augustinian Canons situated in the south western hills of Soissons, Aisne, France. Only ruins remain, of which the west front is still one of the most spectacular pieces of architecture in the town.

Battle of Soissons (923)

The Battle of Soissons in 923 was a battle during which King Robert I of France was killed, possibly by King Charles III (by legend in single combat), and the latter was defeated and imprisoned by Rudolph, Duke of Burgundy who succeeded Robert I as French monarch.
