Up from the Ground

Up from the Ground was an extreme metal festival held annually in August in Gemünden am Main/Steinwiesen, Germany from 2000. The 2007 edition took place on August 24-August 25 and was the last edition of the festival. There was no festival in 2008, and the event's future is very much in doubt owing to the promoters' fears arising from, among other things, what they consider to be a poor location.

Schönrain Priory

Schönrain Priory (Kloster Schönrain) was a house of the Benedictine Order located near Lohr in the Spessart, in Bavaria in Southern Germany. There is a legend that it was originally founded in the Carolingian period, in about 750, by Saint Lioba, and it is true that a few traces of architecture from that period survive.

Rieneck Castle

Rieneck Castle is a castle built by Ludwig I, Count of Loon and Rieneck, in the year 1151. The city of Rieneck is situated about 80 km east of Frankfurt. The castle now serves as a Scouting facility and is owned by the German Christian Guide and Scout Association, VCP. The castle's programme includes many interesting Scouting activities such as arts and crafts, pioneering and middelage trades and offers accommodation, Internet connection (see image to the right) and a campsite.

Langenprozelten Pumped Storage Station

The Langenprozelten Pumped Storage Station is a pumped storage power power station near Gemünden am Main at the Main in the under-Frankish district Main Spessart, which went in service in 1976. The hydro-electric power plant has an output of 180 MW. It uses two Francis turbines. The upper reservoir is nearly 300 meters higher than the lower reservoir and is connected with ist by one for about 1.3 km long pipes. The maximum head is 320 m.
