The Ansbach school attack occurred on 17 September 2009, at the Carolinum Gymnasium in Ansbach, Germany. The attacker Georg R. , a 19-year-old man whom the BBC reports as a former student, entered the school that morning armed with petrol bombs and an axe. At least nine people were injured in the attack, at least one of them seriously. A Nuremberg police spokesman stated that all the wounded are eight-graders.

The church St. Gumbertus is one of the central city churches of Ansbach, Bavaria, together with the neighboring St. Johannis. Located in the Altstadt (old town) of Ansbach, St. Gumbertus, now a Lutheran church, was originally the church of a monastery that was founded by St. Gumbert around 750.
