The Gymnasium der Stadt Kerpen (German, High school of city Kerpen) is a Gymnasium and a Europe school in Kerpen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The school was founded in 1968. Marienfeld

Marienfeld is a large (2.6 km² / 640 acres) grassy field on the reclaimed site of a former open-pit lignite mine about 20 km south-west of Cologne Cathedral in the city of Cologne, Germany, straddling the towns of Frechen and Kerpen. The mine area was named Marienfeld and landscaped in order to serve as the site of the Catholic Church's 20th World Youth Day in 2005.

World Youth Day 2005

The 20th World Youth Day 2005 (German: XX. Weltjugendtag Köln) was a Catholic youth festival that started on August 16 and continued until August 21, 2005 in Cologne, Germany. It was the first World Youth Day and foreign trip of Pope Benedict XVI, who joined the festival on August 18. This meeting was decided by the previous pope, John Paul II, during the Toronto World Youth Day of 2002. The theme was "We have come to worship Him".
