Vianden is a commune with city status in the Oesling, north-eastern Luxembourg, with over 1,500 inhabitants. It is the capital of the canton of Vianden, which is part of the district of Diekirch. Vianden lies on the Our river, near the border between Luxembourg and Germany. As of 2001, the town of Vianden, which lies in the east of the commune, has a population of 1,511. It is known for its impressive castle and beautiful location in the Our valley.

Bettendorf is a commune and town in eastern Luxembourg. It lies along the river Sauer. It is part of the canton of Diekirch, which is part of the district of Diekirch. As of 2001, the town of Bettendorf, which lies in the centre of the commune, has a population of 1,045. Other towns within the commune include Bleesbruck, Gilsdorf and Moestroff. The privately owned Bettendorf Castle dates from 1728 and is built in the Baroque style.

As of 2001, the village of Tandel, which lies in the centre of the commune, has a population of 87. Other villages within the commune include Bastendorf, Bettel, Brandenbourg, Fouhren and Longsdorf. The commune of Tandel was formed on 1 January 2006 from the former communes of Bastendorf and Fouhren (in the canton of Vianden).
