Laguna de Ayarza

Laguna de Ayarza is a crater lake in Guatemala. The lake is a caldera that was created some 20,000 years ago by a catastrophic eruption that destroyed a twinned volcano and blanketed the entire region with a layer of pumice. The lake has a surface area of 14 km² and a maximum depth of 230 m. The lake has a surface elevation of 1409 m.

Paz River

The Río Paz is a river in southern Guatemala. Its sources are located in the Quezalapa mountains in the north of Jutiapa. From there it flows in a south-westerly direction and marks the border with El Salvador for most of its way before reaching the Pacific Ocean at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:13|46|16|N|90|10|57|W|type:landmark_region:GT | |name=Mouth of the Río Paz }}. The Paz River is 134 km long, and its river basin covers a territory of 1,732 km in Guatemala.

Jalapa, Jalapa

Jalapa is a city in Guatemala. It is the capital of the department of Jalapa; it is also the municipal seat of that department's municipality of Jalapa. It is located 174 kilometres from Guatemala City. However, there is a shorter road from Guatemala City to Jalapa using Atlantic Highway and then going south (exit toward the city of Sanarate). This way Jalapa is only around 97 kilometres, from Guatemala City.

Jalapa Department

Jalapa is a department of Guatemala, in the south east-of the republic. The capital is the city of Jalapa. In 2000 the department of Jalapa had an estimated population of 390,500. The majority is ladino, of predominantly European descent, with sizable minorities of K'iche' and Poqomam Maya. The main agricultural products are cattle, sorghum, tobacco, onion and maize (corn). Recently, a program called Wells of Hope has been started in this area.
