Ellis Bridge

Ellis Bridge is a century old heritage tied-arch bridge situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is across Sabarmati river. Constructed in 1869, the original bridge constructed by British engineers had a wooden structure, which was replaced by steel in 1892. The original bridge was narrow and not suited for heavy motorized traffic. Modern extensions have been constructed on either side of the original bridge to support heavy traffic, and the original bridge is preserved as a landmark.

Sidi Saiyyed Mosque

The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, built in 1573, is one of the most famous mosques of Ahmedabad. As attested by the marble stone tablet fixed on the wall of the mosque, it was built by Sidi Saeed or Sidi Saiyyed, an Abyssinian in the retinue of Bilal Jhajar Khan, general in the army of the last Sultan Shams-ud-Din Muzaffar Shah III of the Gujarat Sultanate. The mosque was built in the last year of the existence of Sultanate of Gujarat.

The city is the administrative headquarter of Ahmedabad district and is the judicial capital of Gujarat as the Gujarat High Court is located here. With a population of more than 5.8 million and an extended population of 6.3 million, it is the fifth largest city and seventh largest metropolitan area of India.

Geography of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is located on the banks of the River Sabarmati in the northern part of Gujarat and the western part of India. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:23.03|N|72.58|E||||| | |name= }} spanning an area of 205 km². The average elevation is 53 metres. There are 2 main lakes located in the city limits – the Kankaria lake, and the Vastapur lake. Kankaria lake, located in Maninagar, is an artificial lake developed by Qutb-ud-din Aybak in 1451.
