Lissadell House

Lissadell House is a neo-classical Greek revivalist style country house, located in County Sligo, Ireland. The house was built in the 1830s for Sir Robert Gore-Booth, 4th Baronet MP by London architect Francis Goodwin. In 1876, Sir Robert left the house and surrounding estate to his son, Sir Henry Gore-Booth, 5th Baronet.

Inishmurray

Inishmurray (Irish: Inis Muireadheach, meaning "Muireadheach's island") is an uninhabited island situated 7 km off the coast of County Sligo, Ireland. It covers 228 acres . On the island are remains of an early Irish monastic settlement. Saint Molaise founded a monastery here in the 6th century. The island's ecclesiastical settlement was attacked in 807 by the Vikings. The enclosure wall is impressive - reaching 15 feet in height at its highest point and up to 3 meters thick.

Sligo Abbey

Sligo Abbey, a ruined abbey in Sligo, Ireland, was originally built in 1253 by the order of Maurice Fitzgerald, Baron of Offaly. It was destroyed in 1414 by a fire, ravaged during the Tyrone War in 1595 and once more in 1641 during the Ulster Uprising. The friars moved out in the 18th century, but Lord Palmerston restored the Abbey in the 1850s. Currently, it is open to the public.

Aughris

Aughris (Irish: Eachrois, meaning "point of the horses") is a coastal townland in County Sligo, in the west of Ireland. It is also the name given to a prominent headland that includes the townlands of Aughris, Garryduff, Kilrusheighter and Rathglass. The area has been settled since at least medieval times and there are numerous archaeological remains in the vicinity.
