Lough Carra is a limestone lake of 4,000 acres, located in the Barony of Carra, County Mayo, Republic of Ireland, approximate 8 miles (13 km) south of Castlebar. It is approximately 6 miles long and varies in width from 400 yards to one mile (1.6 km). The average depth is 6 feet, with a maximum of 60. Lough Carra was part of the estate of the well-known Moore family of Moore Hall. It is a well-known brown trout lough, and is situated northeast of Lough Mask.

Moore Hall, County Mayo
Moore Hall, or Moorehall, the house and estate of George Henry Moore and family, is situated in the barony of Carra, County Mayo in a karst limestone landscape. The Moores were an aristocratic Irish family who built Moore Hall between 1792 and 1795. The first Moore of Moore Hall was George Moore, a name borne by many members of the family down the generations.

Lough Mask
Lough Mask is a limestone lough of 22,000 acres (89 km²) in County Mayo, Ireland, north of Lough Corrib. Lough Mask is the upper of the two lakes, which empty into the Corrib River, through Galway, into Galway Bay. The lake is visited for its trout fishing. Lough Mask feeds into Lough Corrib through an underground stream. In 1338 Sir Edmond de Burgh was drowned in the lake by his cousin Sir Edmond Albanach Bourke of County Mayo, at the end of the Burke Civil War 1333–38.

Ballintubber Abbey
Ballintubber Abbey is a royal abbey two kilometres northeast of the village of Ballintubber, County Mayo in Ireland, founded by King Cathal Crobdearg Ua Conchobair in 1216. It is said to be the only church in Ireland founded by an Irish king that is still in regular use. Despite being suppressed and damaged during the Protestant Reformation, the roofless abbey continued to be used throughout penal times by Catholics.
