Battle of Rignano

The Battle of Rignano was the second great defeat of the career of Roger II of Sicily and, like the first, the Battle of Nocera, it too came at the hands of Ranulf II, Count of Alife. The prime difference was the position of the two combatants. At Nocera on 24 July 1132, Ranulf was allied with Robert II of Capua and Sergius VII of Naples and he was a mere rebel, fighting the king of Sicily.

Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church

The Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church is a church in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy owned by the Ordine dei Frati Minori Cappuccini di Foggia. Built in devotion to Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, it can accommodate 6,500 people seated at worship, with standing room for 30,000 people outside. The Genoan architect Renzo Piano designed the church. It is located in front of Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, a big Italian hospital and research center, founded by Saint Pio of Pietrelcina.

Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza

Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (Home for Relief of the Suffering) is a private hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo, founded by Saint Pio of Pietrelcina. Inaugurated 5 May 1956, the hospital has adopted modern technologies and is considered one of the most efficient in Italy and Europe. It is known for its exceptional hygiene. The building is situated in the highest part of the city.

Gargano

Gargano is a historical and geographical Italian sub-region situated in Apulia, consisting of a wide isolated mountain massif made of highland and several peaks and forming the backbone of the Gargano Promontory projecting into the Adriatic Sea. The high point is Monte Calvo at 1,065 m . Most of the upland area, about 1,200 km, is part of the Gargano National park, founded in 1991. It is within the Italian Province of Foggia.

Foggia Airfield Complex

The Foggia Airfield Complex was a series of World War II military airfields located within a 40 km radius of Foggia, in the Province of Foggia, Italy. The airfields were used by the United States Army Air Force Fifteenth Air Force as part of the strategic bombardment campaign against Nazi Germany in 1944 and 1945, as well as by Twelfth Air Force and the Royal Air Force during the Italian Campaign (1943–1945).
