Pentedattilo

Pentedattilo is a ghost town in Calabria, southern Italy, administratively a frazione of Melito di Porto Salvo. Until 1811, before the unification of Italy, it was a separate commune. It is situated at 250 m above the sea level, on the Monte Calvario, a mountain whose shapes once resembled that of five fingers (whence the name, from the Greek penta + daktylos, meaning "five fingers")

Castle of Sant'Aniceto

The Castle of Sant'Aniceto (also San Niceto) is a Byzantine castle built in the early 11th century on a hill in Motta San Giovanni, now in the province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy. It is one of the few examples of High Middle Ages architecture in Calabria, as well as one of the few well-preserved Byzantine fortifications in the world. The name derives from that of St. Nicetas, a Byzantine admiral who lived in the 7th-8th centuries.

Pellaro

Pellaro is the southernmost quarter of the commune of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy. It has approximately 13,000 inhabitants. The town is located on the 38° latitude, which is shared by the cities of Seoul, Athens, San Francisco and Córdoba. A monument was erected in 1987 to indicate this.

Melito (river)

The Melito is an Italian river whose source is in Aspromonte National Park. The river flows south past Bagaladi and San Lorenzo before emptying into the Ionian Sea by Melito di Porto Salvo.

Punta di Pellaro

Punta di Pellaro is the extreme southwestern point of mainland Italy, in the region of Calabria, looking towards the east coast of Sicily, at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:38|01|N|15|38|E||| | |name= }}. Anciently, a promontory of Bruttium, it was in consequence of its location generally regarded as the termination of the chain of the Apennines. Pliny tells us it was 12 miles from Rhegium. The whiteness of the rocks composing this headland gave origin to the ancient name.
