The Serre Calabresi or Calabrian Serre are a mountain and hill area of Calabria, southern Italy, characterized by large extents of woods. The name could be derived by the Jewish Ser, meaning "mountains", or it could refer to the shape of a handsaw. The highest peak is the Monte Pecoraro, with an altitude of 1423 m.

Port of Gioia Tauro

The Port of Gioia Tauro in southern Italy is one of the largest seaport in Italy and the seventh largest container port in Europe in 2010. It is situated along the route connecting Suez to Gibraltar, one of the busiest maritime corridors in the world. The port has seven loading docks with an extension of 4,646 metres; in 2007 it had a throughput of 3.7 million TEU's from more than 3,000 ships.

Marro

The Marro is an Italian river in the province of Reggio Calabria. Its source is south of Cittanova and north of the Aspromonte. It has two tributaries which flow north from their sources in the Aspromonte into the Marro. The Marro flows northwest and empties into the Tyrrhenian Sea near Gioia Tauro.

1905 Calabria earthquake

Striking southern Italy on September 8, the 1905 Calabria earthquake killed between 557 and 5,000 people and damaged at least 14,000 houses in the epicentral area alone. The first major earthquake of the 20th century, it damaged parts of Lipari Island and Messina Province.

The Province of Vibo Valentia (Italian: Provincia di Vibo Valentia) is a province in the Calabria region of Italy, set up by a national law of 6 March 1992 which came into effect on 1 January 1996, and formerly part of the Province of Catanzaro. Its capital is the city of Vibo Valentia and its vehicle licence plate code is VV. The Province has an area of 1,139 km² (7.6% of the total surface of Calabria), and a total population of 168,894.
