Lake Bolsena

Lake Bolsena (Italian: Lago di Bolsena) is a crater lake of central Italy, of volcanic origin, which was formed starting 370,000 years ago following the collapse of a caldera of the Vulsini volcanic complex into a deep aquifer. Roman historic records indicate activity of the Vulsini volcano occurred as recently as 104 BC, since when it has been dormant. The two islands in the southern part of the lake were formed by underwater eruptions following the initial collapse of the caldera.

Vulsini

Vulsini, also known as Volsini volcano, Vulsini Volcanic District, Vulsini Volcanic Complex and the Vulsinian District, is a circular region of intrusive igneous rock in Lazio, Italy, about 87 km to the north northwest of Rome, containing a cluster of calderas known to have been active in recent geologic and historical times. Potentially they still are active.

Ombrene Airfield

Ombrene Airfield is an abandoned World War II military airfield in Italy, which was located approximately 5 km southeast of Montefiascone, in the province of Viterbo, central Italy It was an all-weather temporary field built by the United States Army Air Force XII Engineer Command using a graded earth compacted surface, with a prefabricated hessian (burlap) surfacing known as PHS.

Monti Volsini

The Monti Volsini or Vulsini are a minor mountain range in northern Lazio, Italy, near the Lake Bolsena. The highest point is that of Passo della Montagnola, in the comune of Latera, at c. 645 m. The area is the relic of an ancient volcano (Vulsinio). In the area grape and olives are intenselvy cultivated, while vegetation include Oak, Alder and Sweet Chestnut. Boar is also present in the Volsini region. The range takes its name from the ancient Etruscan city of Vulsinii.

Orto Botanico dell'Università della Tuscia

The Orto Botanico dell'Università della Tuscia (15 hectares) is a natural area and botanical garden operated by Tuscia University and located at Località Bulicame, Strada S. Caterina, Viterbo, Lazio, Italy. The garden was established in 1985 and officially inaugurated in 1991. It lies on the Viterbo plains beneath the Monti Cimini and is divided into the botanical garden proper (6 hectares) and the Park Bulicame natural area (9 hectares), source of a sulpherous thermal spring.
